Griese Kappe Quintett
Since it’s foundation in 2004 the Christof Griese - Christian Kappe Quintet has already recorded two CD’s and played many concerts. The quintet’s music is meant to convince by wonderful compositions characterized by soul, sound and groove and last not least the joy of playing together. The latest CD „Floating“ is recorded at and produced by the RBB (Radio Berlin – Brandenburg), the other CD is recorded live during concert, offering the best takes of two wonderful evenings at the cultural factory "Schlot", meanwhile one of the most beautiful Jazz clubs in Berlin.
Christian Kappe and Christof Griese are internationally active musicians who are happy to have found one of the best Berlin based rhythm sections to play with them.
Johannes Kersthold, Dirk Strakhof and Rainer Winch studied together in Berlin and they groove incredibly well together.
In november 2005 the Quintet won the 5th edition of the German Jazz & Blues Award. The jury was very positive about the creative playing and the beautiful compositions.

About the CD „Floating“: Floating is not a product of studio wizardry – quite the contrary, it is essentially an audio documentary of a real-time artistic process. It is a recording of this band clearly and honestly being what they are – a LIVE band!
Many albums out there are almost more a product of the studio engineers than the musicians – Floating is anything but that. The quintet came in and played as if they were in one of the Berlin jazz clubs they know so well – together and live; hearing, seeing, and feeling each other as they laid down each track. When they started to play, you could see the studio melt from their consciousness as they entered that flow that is the core of their music.
It wasn't all first takes that made it onto the album, but no piece was in the can until everyone knew that they had just played the take. This type of musical togetherness is what this band is about. Christof Griese, Christian Kappe, Johannes Kersthold, Dirk Strakhof and Rainer Winch write and play this maverick, timeless, very contemporary music with and, above all, for one another.
Floating is an album that authentically captures this quartet as you will hear them on stage – flowing as one, creating their music in the moment in true musical togetherness, and above all, LIVE!
